Twenty-one years ago, a large plot of land was released on the outskirts of their village. There was place for several houses and everyone was allowed to indicate where their house should be build and how big the lot was. Jantje and Gerrit walked around with a ruler, rope and poles and decided on the spot where they wanted their house. Nowadays they still enjoy living in their self-designed home where the basis is still the same, but the interior has changed enormously in recent years: from an entire house full of pine furniture and masonry to a fresh and light interior, where there is room for new items as well as finds from thrift stores.
