When you enter the farm of Arie and Gonnie you feel and smell the history and that gives a very special feeling. The past few years have shown how special the farm is. The renovation was an adventure in which many original parts emerged under planks and behind masonry. An old fireplace had been hammered away, as well as old ceilings. In the walls they found remnants of a nineteenth century baking oven. Under the glazed floor tiles revealed much older tiles and underneath was an old loam floor. Details such as decorative edges in the wooden beams, the window layout and masonry revealed that ‘De Maaihoeve’ was allowed to cost something during construction at the time. So it is mainly the feeling that people have worked here four to five hundred years ago, lived and warmed themselves in front of the fireplace that appeals to us about this house. Arie and Gonnie find it a privilege that they can now live in this house.
