It was a drizzly day in November when Maria-Laura first saw this apartment of 90 m2. ‘The walls were painted yellow and because there was no sun at that moment, I didn’t know if there would be enough light for my plants. However, I saw almost immediately that I could make something beautiful out of the different spaces.’ The studio she rented before had become too small for her jungle. ‘I lived with about 150 plants in a small area. Moreover, I bought too much interior stuff during that period – I have a thing for deco so I really needed a new place. And this time I would buy it instead of renting it!’ Finding an affordable apartment with two bedrooms, large windows and a terrace in the heart of Gent is not easy, but Maria-Laura did not settle for less. She now lives in the historic center of the city, a few minutes by bike from the office where she works.
