Two years ago Baukje moved with her husband, son and dog from Utrecht to Baukje’s parental home (1889) in Kollum in Friesland. They converted the house into a stylish, sleek home. They built a barn house at the back of the house so Baukje’s parents could move into a part of the barn house. When it is necessary they can take care of her parents. The interior is sleek, but feels warm, it is a nice family home. It is a sturdy house finished with contemporary materials. The house still contains original details that have been restored, such as beamed ceiling and old doors. The front part of the extension serves as an office where Baukje runs her own interior design office. The long hallway in the house connects Baukje’s house with her office and her parents’ house. The garden has been made in such a way that both families enjoy their own privacy and place. By using the same materials and colour, both gardens feel as a whole.
