Joke and Richard are people who like to be busy with restoration, renovation and gardening… Almost 15 years ago they took this building under their care and went to live here. This early 17th century canal house has immense high spaces with a wide view over the canal at the front and at the rear a view over the typical Amsterdam roofs. The house got back a lot of its allure when Richard built a beautiful curving staircase to replace an old ugly neglected staircase. Joke provided the cozy atmosphere with e.g. Vermeer’s milkmaid above the Aga stove and the jaded sofa in the front room. This is a house where people live and where cleaning is not done all day… if you drink a glass of wine in the evening you could just think you ended up in the 17th golden age.
