They are the oldest chocolate family of Sicily; ‘The Bonajuto’s’. During six generations they produce chocolate in Modica in the same way as the Aztecs already did. From a modest shop, decorated like a chocolate museum, the Antica Dolceria Bonajuto’s famous bars go around the world. Remarkably cream and butter is not added in the preparation of the Bonajuto chocolate. Here you can taste real chocolate, from the time that it was used as food for hard-working farmers. Pure and bitter, consisting of ground cocoa beans and sugar, whether or not blended with a traditional seasoning as marjoram, orange or white pepper. The favourite of the current generation is cinnamon. “It’s the smell of Grandpa.”
